The Roaming Rector's Travel Log

This is the page where Kathy has promised us up to date pictures and descriptions of her East Coast trip for vacation .

Keep checking back for daily updates

Day 1

Off she goes!... (Dont' we all wish we looked that awake at 5:15AM?)

Very wet...Very early...All alone!

Two very weary travelers brave the early hour and torrential rains to trek East in search of good food...good friends...good weather...and great surf!

Day 2

Jersey may be small, but we know how to make things big! Pizza box too big to get into rental Aveo!

Fireworks - Avalon, NJ

Day 3

Travis and I were up early on Wednesday...motoring north so we could be in Rhode Island for some late afternoon beach time...NOT! The farther we went...the harder it rained. The harder it rained...the slower the traffic...until I-95 looked like one giant, soggy parking lot! The closer we got to Rhode Island the bigger the rain drops! I now know what they mean when they say, "The rain came down in buckets!" Noah himself never saw waters like that!!

We stopped in Wyoming for lunch...then on into Warwick...where we got promptly and totally lost! And the harder we tried to find our way...the worser it got! It wasn't till later, after we'd been rescued by Kathy, Holly's sister, that we found out the state sport in "poor little Rhode Island" is removing street signs from key intersections, sitting at the corner Dunkin Donuts and watching the 'foreigners' drive round and round with bewildered looks on their faces...and strange utterances coming from their lips. Little did we know that being hopelessly lost in a rental car with New York plates has given the locals no end of delight!

We were finally rescued with directions I could follow, "Just pull over, park the car, and don't do anything, we'll find you!"

Day 4

Mystic, Connecticut on a sunny summer day...ha!

Mystic Pizza - Travis, Holly's sister Kathy, Holly's parents Richard and Willow

Day 5 and 6

St John's by the Sea Episcopal Church

They don't make teenagers like they used to ....

(Travis)

Day 7

OK...Still alive...and well! The weather's great...Travis is fishing and surfing...I'm beaching and eating...life is good!
Miss everyone, but have decided to continue with original plan and stay till Saturday!!Will forward picture of Travis' 'fish'...
yep, he did catch something...one little something...and we'll get the proof to you. I know I've been gone awhile...I'm starting to to crave jalapenos and salsa! There's restaurant here, Tortilla Flats, that Travis and I have considered... but not really! Right now we're into the world's best pizza...some really good cheese steaks...birch beer and soft pretzels with mustard!

Found a wonderful home to retire in...for a cool 8 million! It has a bowling alley, movie theatre, and heated pool with an ocean view! But, it's just a bit out of my range...like a cool 8 million out!

Day 8

First we clean...then we fish

Well, on Tuesday the score was Atlantic Ocean 1....Travis' cell phone 0. He had his surfboard in his arms and his phone in his pocket...surf was up...phone went down! Oh, the hard lessons we learn!

Today...to go out in the bay fishing... they cleaned the boat...put the motor on....put the boat in the water...pulled the starter cord and the motor fell apart.

We think it's Travis...the El Paso jinx!!
Beach weather is great...water is 70 degrees...air is high 70's...life is good!

We're "Fishers of Men" .... not bass!

Day 9

Kathy has left the beach!

Kathy returned to El Paso with a great east coast suntan.
